it was enough to push me over to the other side, at least until i figure out a coherent set of standards for myself.
it's made me very conscious of a few things:
- eating with friends is tricky. how can you be a good guest? or fun food explorer?
- memories and tradition. i saw a chick-fil-a at the mall and exclaimed, i love chick-fil-a, let's go! then remembered, there's nothing i can eat there. in sf, matt and i made a stop at king of shanghai dumpling because i love xiao long bao. i forgot about the meat part. i could forgo chick-fil-a for the rest of my life, but the chinese food i grew up on? i'm not sure. i forget that the stuff i like to eat and the food traditions i have don't match up with being veg.
