how we define ourselves

i had a few people over on tuesday.  one person lived in brazil for a while. 

 

he contrasted people in brazil with people here.  he said, we define ourselves by our jobs and what we do.  people there don't do that.

 

anyway, the thought has been lingering in my mind.
